Students Working for Equal Rights Statewide Youth Rights Leadership Summit
April 28th & 29th
Students Working for Equal Rights (SWER) announced the first-ever Statewide Youth Rights Leadership Conference. This two-day conference, planned for students, by students, was designed to address issues of concern to immigrant students and empower a new generation of civil rights leaders by helping them develop the communication and organizing skills that they need to win the fight for equal access to higher education in Florida. Throughout the weekend, participants learned from the example of those who have come before: the vibrant student movements that have succeeded in changing our country.
Participants attended workshops to build skills in lobbying, organizing, advocacy and movement building. Bringing together the best and brightest minds from across the state we came together to develop goals and strategies to promote passage of DREAM Act, and policies at the state and national levels that benefit immigrant students!
The Student Summit was held at the St. Clement Catholic Church in Plant City.
